Mental health and well-being have always been basic needs for us humans. The problem is, they haven't been treated like such, for longer than we think. Well, the problem itself is actually bigger than we think.
When mental health services aren't available, everything around us is affected. The world's biggest industries, the services we use everyday, our governments, and the entire population on the planet, have something in common: they all rely on mental well-being.
In lower income countries, there's less than 1 mental health professional per 100,000 citizens.
1 in 7 teenagers, at least, struggle with mental health.
Due to anxiety and depression, the global economy loses around 1 trillion USD every year (over 700 billion pounds).
These are just some examples of how the lack of mental health services completely affects our surroundings.
Luckily, technology's got our backs. Since the introduction of smartphones and the evolution of app development processes, it's now easier than ever to find an app that has just what we're looking for in a matter of seconds. We just type, download, tap and done.
There are hundreds of mental well-being apps now available across the globe that attempt to solve this problem, yet they don't.
Apart from being basic needs, we also believe that mental health and well-being should be considered fundamental human rights. If they're so, why charge for them?
Unfortunately, not everyone can afford paid or private mental health services, and that is why mental health apps play a key role in solving this problematic. Nonetheless, most mental health apps charge a fee to offer their services. Some apps will charge up to £20 monthly to deliver a service similar to Nomadful, if not the same.
Now, some apps in the mental health category do not charge, yet for some reason “free” seems to be a synonym for “limited” and “non-user-friendly.”
